The limits of concern for future generations (in Polish)

Abstract

In the paper I consider whether we should give the same importance to the interests and welfare of human beings existing in the future as to those of individuals living now? I try to show that treating the temporal dimension analogously to the spatial dimension is problematic, both in terms of moral requirements and of the principles of justice to be followed by social institutions. I analyze the problem of the social discount rate and point out the limitations it poses for a consequentialist profit and loss account in the context of intergenerational equity.
