ADEC – „The Association for Death Education and Counseling®, The Thanatology Association®, is one of the oldest interdisciplinary organizations in the field of dying, death and bereavement. Its nearly 2,000 members include a wide array of mental and medical health personnel, educators, clergy, funeral directors and volunteers”.

Brain Injury Association of America – „Our mission is to advance brain injury prevention, research, treatment and education and to improve the quality of life for all individuals impacted by brain injury. Through advocacy, we bring help, hope and healing to millions of individuals living with brain injury, their families and the professionals who serve them”.

Centre for Neuro Skills – „Since 1980, Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) has delivered postacute medical treatment, therapeutic rehabilitation and disease management services with specially-trained staff for individuals recovering from acquired brain injury. Our cost-effective, patient-centered programs maximize treatment effect, learning generalization and stability of recovery in real-world settings. The goal: to facilitate skill acquisition and help each patient resume a normal rhythm of living”.

Dying Matters Coalition – „In 2009, the National Council for Palliative Care (NCPC) set up the Dying Matters Coalition to promote public awareness of dying, death and bereavement. It is chaired by Professor Mayur Lakhani, who is a practising GP. The work of the Coalition is supported by NCPC’s Board of Trustees”.

International Network for the Definition of Death – „Founded by Dr. Calixto Machado of Cuba, and Alan Weisbard of the USA, the Network is an affiliate of theInternational Association of Bioethics devoted to the discussion of the ethical and medical issues associated with:

  • diagnosis and differentiation of brain death, coma, and persistent vegetative state
  • differentiation of anencephaly and other severe neurological deficits from brain death
  • organ transplantation and termination of treatment decisions for the brain-dead and neurologically impaired
  • philosophical issues of personhood and rights related to the status of the brain dead and neurologically impaired”.
